Anam Cara is the Celtic for Soul Friend ~ an often used term for spiritual mentoring, also referred to as spiritual direction, guidance or companioning. Essentially, it is the process of accompanying an individual on their own, individual spiritual journey.
Spiritual mentoring is the practice of being fully present with an individual as they seek to deepen their connection and experience with God, the Divine, the Sacred, the Beloved. A spiritual mentor, together with that individual, listens deeply to how the Sacred is moving in daily life, for the Sacred encounters, and for the authentic voice of guidance that informs the spiritual journey, relationships, work and service in the world.
If so invited, a spiritual mentor may suggest spiritual practices that may allow an individual to become more open to or to more deeply experience the Sacred as it is moving with them throughout their lives.
